HOW IT WORKS
• A TROMBE WALL IS A SYSTEM FOR INDIRECT SOLAR HEAT GAIN.
• CONSISTS OF A DARK COLORED WALL OF HIGH THERMAL MASS FACING THE SUN, WITH GLAZING SPACED
IN FRONT TO LEAVE A SMALL AIR SPACE. THE GLAZING TRAPS SOLAR RADIATION LIKE A SMALL
GREENHOUSE.
COST OF THE TECHNOLOGY
• MINIMUM OF $120 PER SQUARE FOOT.
ADVANTAGES
• COMFORTABLE HEAT
• NO MAINTENANCE NEEDED
• EASY TO BUILD
• MATERIALS ARE INEXPENSIVE, SUCH AS MASONRY, CONCRETE
• CAN REDUCE HEATING BILLS BY LARGE AMOUNT
DISADVANTAGES
• EXTERIOR WALLS BECOME A HEAT LOSS SOURCE DURING EXTENDED OVERCAST DAYS. HOWEVER IT IS
NOT A PROBLEM FOR INTERIOR TROMBE WALL
